A motorised awning is the first step to making life outdoor at home more pleasant and convenient.By adding a touch of connectivity, your terrace becomes an extra room that you can enjoy at all times.
During stifling summer heat, your terrace’s retractable awning opens.
The shade it produces protects your furniture and plants.
Your house stays cool inside.
Your teenagers are alone at home with their friends. A storm blows in.
From your smartphone, you close your terrace awning in one tap.
No need to wonder and worry if the kids will think about it.
To take full advantage of your terrace even in the evening, a single command creates exactly the right ambiance.
Say "evening scene" to your smart speaker, and the patio awning opens to insulate from cooler evening temperatures, the lights switch on and the music starts playing.
You can also launch the scene with a tap on your smartphone.
Enjoy your outdoor at all times, even during the hottest hours.
Associated to a sun sensor, your electric awning closes or opens automatically to ensure that your terrace is always comfortable, both at lunch and during long summer evenings.
Somfy motors make your awning electrically operated. Our motors are suitable for installation on most manual awnings available on the market, but can of course also be integrated directly into a new sun shade.
We have a wide range of motors, each with their specific properties and areas of application.
To choose the right motor for your awning, we recommend that you contact a local Somfy dealer. They can explain exactly what are the benefits of eletric patio awnings and how to select the right automation technology.
The Sunea motor ensures the awning retracts fully into its sealed cassette to prevent water penetration and prevent the fabric against mould.

The housing of the awning, also called the cassette, can be closed completely. Your awning is therefore optimally protected against wind and weather. The awning arms also disappear completely into the housing.
The awning fabric falls under the top of the housing when the awning is folded. he articulated arms are then outside the cassette. At the bottom, the cassette is (partially) open.
The open construction means that the fabric and folding arms are exposed to weather influences. This type of awning can be placed well under an overhanging roof, so that it is still protected against the weather.
In addition to the central fabric, this awning with folding arm has a valance. This is a second fabric, with its own motor, located on the front frame. Operate this fabric separately to provide extra protection from light and heat to your terrace and home.
Awnings with locks are mostly installed in private buildings. The locks are fixed manually.
Somfy designs and manufactures only motors to power the awnings in the home. Our products are then supplied to industrial firms that assemble them with the awning motorization. The assembled products are finally installed by specialised installers at your house. You will have to contact your installer to fix your installation.
There are several types of awnings capable of effectively protecting your patio: 1. Standard awnings. The articulated arms and fabric remain exposed when the awning is closed. For these models, Somfy recommends you use the Sunilus io motorised system. 2. Cassette awnings. The articulated arms and fabric are protected from UV and moisture within a sealed cassette. 3. Semi-cassette awnings. Only the fabric is protected within the sealed cassette. For awnings with cassettes, Somfy recommends you use the Sunea io motorised system. 4. Awnings with a roll-up valance. Extra fabric is integrated into the outside bar holding the fabric. It provides protection when the sun is low in the sky. For this type of awning, Somfy recommends you use the Sunea Screen 40 io motorised system.
The points to check before selecting a motorised system: 1. Are the walls of your house in good enough condition to be able to support a solidly attached motorised system? 2. To extend the life of your fabric and protect it against bad weather, Somfy recommends you select an awning with a cassette. 3. Consider checking the frame strength. The frame’s arms should move in a fluid motion without twisting. 4. Make sure to get a quality fabric that is UV and weather resistant, and easy to maintain. 5. Consider installing weather sensors for your patio that automatically open and close your awnings.
Motorising your patio awning and automating it will help you gain additional living space to share with family or friends. With a single click on your remote control, you choose between sunshine and shade without moving from your deckchair - say goodbye to the crank handle. Weather sensors lower the awning if the sun comes out and retract it in the event of wind. Protected from bad weather and operated smoothly, the mechanism and fabric will last longer. At nightfall, you can use your remote control to light up your patio and garden, and even to switch on a back-up heater incorporated in the awning system.
